How to clean your computer from viruses IRC-Worm

Once installed, worm infects and redirects Firefox and Chrome browsers to different websites after user queries specific search terms.
Spybot.AKB is the latest worm to grace Direct Connect P2P networks, this time passing itself off as a name brand .exe file extension in the “shared” folder.
Once activated it installs an extension in the Firefox and Chrome browsers in order to control the searches made by users, and then redirects them to malicious websites from which more malware can be downloaded.
It affects the “shared” folders of the following P2P programs:
- eMule
- LimeWire
- Morpheus
- Tesla
- Winmx
- eDonkey
- Bearshare
- Grokster
- Icq
- KaZaA
Unsurprisingly the worm only affects Windows platforms, specifically 2003, XP, 2000, NT, ME, 98, and 95, so Vista and Win 7 users are immune.
For more info check out the Panda security website.
As usual I recommend switching to BitTorrent or Usenet from Direct Connect-style P2P networks. Between copyright infringement investigations and malware headaches it’s just not a safe place to be anymore.
Stay tuned.

For the third month in a row the top five programs have led the rest of the rating by some distance.
January, however, did see seven new entries, which is unusual for the first Top Twenty. The two script downloaders that entered right behind the leading pack have already made an appearance in our second rating for web-borne malware, but this is the first time they have made it into this rating.
Among the newcomers are three modifications of Trojan.Win32.Autorun that help spread the notorious P2P-Worm.Win32.Palevo and Trojan-GameThief.Win32.Magania via removable devices.
AutoIt, which we have already discussed on a number of occasions, is gaining in popularity with two new malicious programs – Packed.Win32.Krap.l and Worm.Win32.AutoIt.tc – created using this script language.
Malicious programs on the Internet
The second Top Twenty presents data generated by the web antivirus component, and reflects the online threat landscape. This ranking includes malicious programs detected on web pages and malware downloaded to victim machines from web pages.
PandaLabs detected a new worm, Spybot.AKB, which spreads using P2P programs (copying itself to the usual shared folders with different names) and also via e-mail. What’s new about this worm is the way it tricks users, spreading under the guise of an invitation to join social networks like Twitter and Hi5, or in an e-mail supposedly from Google replying to a job application. Another new feature is the way it installs on computers, passing itself off as a Firefox security extension… (read more)

Remove spyware
Is your computer running slower than usual? Are you worried that someone can access your computer and steal your personal information and use it against you? Therefore, this is what I have experienced in the past.
Some time back, my 3 years old computer is running slow, so I have to buy a new computer. Or at least I think I need a new computer. In a week surfing the Internet on my new computer, it also started to run so slowly. In addition, some programs will not run properly on my computer, and I can not recognize some of the programs running on my computer. I fear that the most. How did those program or computer program be there when I do not remember installing them? I know I have to find answers and solutions quickly.
The truth, we can leave it that way, but very few of us want others to have access to information in our computer. However, this can happen when spyware or malware is loaded on our computers without our knowledge.
Quoted from spyware Nuker website, “Spyware applications are programs and files that hide on your PC’s hard drive without your direct knowledge. These programs allow hackers and advertising companies to track your every move, both online and even when you work offline. They can track the websites you visit, the items that you buy online, the emails you send and receive, your Instant Message dialog, and worst of all they can even record your credit card number, personal identification numbers, and all of your passwords. If you use dial-up to connect to the Internet then spyware can be used to bill 900 numbers to your phone bill. This is just a short list of the harm that spyware can cause.”
The Website also provides statistics show that spyware is a major problem effecting many people. “27.3 million United States have been victims of identity theft in the last five years, including 9.91 million people or 4.6% of the population in the last year alone.”
In addition, it is very easy for your computer to become infected with spyware as a “majority of all the download games, music, screensavers, and more, you can infect your computer with spyware or adware. Most people do not know that just click on a random” pop up “ads, their computer may be infected with spyware or adware.”
No matter how we get spyware, here are 10 reasons why you do not want spyware on your computer.
1. Your computer may start running slower
2. Some of the programs on your computer will not run properly
3. You can not identify the programs on your computer now, because they may have been installed there by a web site associated with spyware, or programs that load on your computer.
In addition, you may be concerned that:
4. Someone may be able to read your e-mail
5. Someone can access your e-mail list
6. One can see that type of monitor you KEYSTROKES
7. Someone can access your credit card information on the pc
8. One can access the password list in your computer
9. Someone may be able to steal your social security number
10. A person can be tracked all the web sites you visit
As I mentioned, most of these programs can get on your computer without you knowing it, but the other part is frustrating I know some of these programs because I remember the installing and uninstalling them! So now I know that when we install some simple little tool to track passwords online or programs to help e-mail or track the weather, although we uninstall them, they should be missing from the computer. However, they are still in our computer, waiting to spy on us, at least.
A great way to find and remove spyware is to run a spyware detector and remover. Most spyware detection and removal at this time offer a free software to scan or to ensure that no spyware on your computer.
All these problems has been resolved after I visited http://www.computer-viruses.co.cc. There is no need to buy spyware software. The website will teach you how to get totally free spyware removal tools.

Firstly a very basic description of what spyware and viruses are and what they do is appropriate.
Spyware is best slotted into two categories, the nuisance category and the category that can seriously compromise the security of information stored on your PC. A lot of internet fraud and identity theft is as a result of active spyware on your PC and the uncanny thing is that many PC users are unaware that they are infected.
Viruses are more sinister. They can be extremely harmful to your computer and tend to be passed in to your PC by the users own ignorance/naiveté – yes folks I’m sorry to say but most viruses are in there as a result of the PC users ignorance!
A very common entry method is by dodgy emails being opened or downloads of ‘freebies’. A common source of viruses and Trojans are P2P download sites – so beware all you gamers and music buffs – you could be downloading a lot more than you bargained for!
How would I know that I have spyware or a virus?
Spyware usually becomes evident where your PC is not behaving the way it should. It could be running very slow, crashing for no apparent reason and even freezing up. In addition one of the most common visible signs are extremely annoying pop ups (some of them you wouldn’t want your children to read or see!)
If you have one or more of these symptoms then it’s likely you have an infection.
A currently popular method of downloading spyware into your PC without you realising it is utilising a third party toolbar usually from a source you don’t know but seems to provide you with all sorts of short cuts – be very very wary of these and if you do use one make sure it’s from a trusted source!
Viruses are more insidious, especially Trojans which can lie dormant in your registry until you perform some action or a specific date arrives and then you or the people you email will certainly know about it!
The usual give-away signs are similar to spyware but their presence is often more subtle and the most common viral attacks have been email associated so the general rule about having a decent operable spam filter is essential to block them should be applied.
If I suspect I have a virus or Spyware – What do I do?
The first thing is to do a scan with a reputable spyware/adware remover. Not all current branded virus software will pick up a lot of spyware because a lot of spyware is there from the users own invitation and not harmful to the operation of the PC – so a lot of files get ‘over-looked’ rather than missed.
Unfortunately I did not appreciate the difference until I had my PC badly infected – but you live and you learn as the saying goes.
There are quite a few software packages out there that will let you scan your system for free and then will charge a lifetime membership fee for protection. Most decent ones should cost no more than about $35 and there are plenty to choose from.
Quite a few of them are free and very good but leave it up to you to work out how to get rid of an infection.
There are other virus and spyware removal programs which as I just said charge a fee and provide good information on how to ‘fix’ the problem.

Need me? antivirus software

In molti mi chiedono quale secondo me è il miglior Antivirus gratuito.
Bitdefender REVIEW teaches anyone who doesn’t know how the power and popularity of this antivirus software. Bitdefender is rated as highly as the biggest brand name antivirus software applications on the market. You may already be using anti-virus software but you should still check out this program to more fully protect your computer. This is because other antivirus programs require tons of system resources while bitdefender doesn’t. This combats the excessive usage of the memory in your computer, which is a common problem that is presented by most antivirus software. Whether your aware of it or not, your computer’s resources and memory are being wasted by software programs. This is one of the reasons bitdefender continuously rates among the highest ratings from antivirus software testers. Its use of system resources and memory is one of the lowest of any product on the market in comparison.

Hey there,
Personally I'd recommend Avast Antivirus..it's free like avg but I found it to be much more effective. It has saved my laptop on numerous occasions.. and it's virus database updates itself every day which is a major plus. You can download it from this link: http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-home.html
PS. make sure you download the home edition as there is also a professional one but you have to pay for it.
My Norton 360 subscription is soon to run out and TBH it's done my tits in asking permission to do this that and the other and telling me to constantly back up twice a day.
I clicked the link to renew and of course it's fooking muppet money to renew. What I was wondering was what other recomend. I of course want a good top quality anti virus but I don't want to be paying such ridiculous money for it.
Any recommendations from people in the know???
Many thanks,
Jimbo.

Again troubles. remove spyware.

Not good enough for us to find malware, see the below:
Welcome to Major Geeks!
Please read ALL of this message including the notes before doing anything.
Pleases follow the instructions in the below link:
READ & RUN ME FIRST. Malware Removal Guide
and attach the requested logs when you finish these instructions.
- After completing the READ & RUN ME and attaching your logs, make sure that you tell us what problems still remain ( if any still do )!
Helpful Notes:
- If you run into problems trying to run the READ & RUN ME or any of the scans in normal boot mode, you can run the steps in safe boot mode but make sure you tell us what you did later when you post logs. See the below if you do not know how to boot in safe mode:
- Starting your computer in Safe mode
- If you have problems downloading on the problem PC, download the tools and the manual updates for SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes ( links are given in the READ & RUN ME) onto another PC and then burn to a CD. Then copy them to the problem PC. You will have to skip getting updates if (and only if) your internet connection does not work. Yes you could use a flash drive too but flash drives are writeable and infections can spread to them.
- If you cannot seem to login to an infected user account, try using a different user account (if you have one) in either normal or safe boot mode and running only SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes while logged into this other user account. Then reboot and see if you can log into the problem user account. If you can then run SUPERAntiSpyware, Malwarebytes, ComboFix and MGtools on the infected account as requested in the instructions.
- To avoid additional delay in getting a response, it is strongly advised that after completing the READ & RUN ME you also read this sticky:
- Don't Bump! It Only Hurts You!!!
Any additional post is a bump which will add more delay. Once you attach the logs, your thread will be in the work queue and as stated our system works the oldest threads FIRST.
Trojan Remover aids in the removal of Malware – Trojan Horses, Worms, Adware, Spyware – when standard anti-virus software either fails to detect them or fails to effectively eliminate them. Standard antivirus programs are good at detecting this Malware, but not always good at effectively removing it. The majority of Anti-Malware Scanners are well able to detect malicious software – Trojan Horses, Internet Worms, Adware/Spyware etc. – but are not always efficient in removing them once they have been triggered. Trojan Remover is designed specifically to disable/remove Malware without the user having to manually edit system files or the Registry. The program also removes the additional system modifications some Malware carries out which are ignored by some standard antivirus scanners. Trojan Remover scans ALL the files loaded at boot time for Adware, Spyware, Remote Access Trojans, internet Worms and other malware. Two types are available. The Standard scan quickly scans the system with no need for further configuration of the scan parameters. The Custom scan… allows the user to select any of the folders for scan.

HTC has a press conference at Mobile World Congress tomorrow. Android.Modaco.com just got some interesting information…
First we have the HTC Desire (codename: Bravo)
It packs Android 2.1 with HTC Sense, a 1Ghz processor, a 3.7″ AMOLED WVGA resolution touchscreen with the optical trackpad into a package that is only 11.9mm thin. The spec sheet stated that it has “Friend Stream” which is probably part of HTC Sense, which is revamped for the Android 2.1 handsets.
Next up, the HTC Legend:
This looks to be the successor of the HTC Hero, which launched last year. The HTC Legend has a 3.2″ HVGA touchscreen, optical trackpad, Android 2.1 with HTC Sense, Friend Stream, and a aluminum construction.
And last we have the HTC Touch HD Mini:
No specs on this one, but it looks exactly like the Touch HD, expect it’s a lot smaller…and the addition of the “Mini” in it’s name. It’s probably running Windows Mobile 6.5 like the Touch HD.
We will only know if this is real at HTC’s conference tomorrow, but wow these handsets look amazing. Now…if one of you guys could just send a Desire my way….
[Source: PhoneDog]
Yesterday we reported that HTC will unveil three new smartphones at the Mobile World Congress 2010 in Barcelona, Spain and the rumors are now true. The Taiwan-based corporation has unveiled the HTC Legend, HTC Desire, and the HTC HD Mini. There are lots of other interesting stuff in HTC’s keynote including new HTC Sense UI and Adobe Flash 10.1 support. More on that below.
The HTC Legend is definitely the successor of the HTC Hero and we can see that from its form factor and design. The Legend was used by HTC to introduce the new HTC Sense UI which combines all social networking services like Twitter and Facebook into one service called Friend Stream. The HTC Legend is “hidden” under an aluminum casing and it looks really cool. I definitely appreciate the optical mouse pointer instead of the trackball.
After the Legend introduction, HTC unveiled “the Superphone that we’ve all been waiting for.” The HTC Desire features a 3.7-inch AMOLED touchscreen and a 1GHz Snapdragon processor. Nothing extraordinary at the moment, but the Desire comes with multitouch out of the box, text reflow, an improved design, and Adobe Flash Player 10.1 support. The HTC Desire is definitely superior to the Google Nexus One: personally, I like the design, while the browser should be awesome with these cool features, and with Adobe Flash 10.1 it will provide the best mobile web browsing experience outrunning the Nokia N900.
HTC said that people prefer small devices and the HTC HD2 was kinda big for most users so the company decided to launch the HTC HD Mini. We don’t see the point of this product as Microsoft unveiled the new Windows Phone 7 Series yesterday and we don’t think the HD2 and the HD Mini will be upgradeable to the new OS. Anyway the new HTC Sense UI is present in the HD Mini and another feature of the Windows Mobile phone is that it can be turned into a mobile WiFi hotspot for your desktop computer.
Peter Chou, HTC’s CEO, said that the new HTC Sense is coming to the Hero and that it will also run on the Desire. This user interface is simply amazing as it provides “richest visual experience possible.” Chou added that HTC will release lots of Windows Phone 7 smartphones this year, while the recently-unveiled trio devices will be shipping as of April.
I am really excited about the HTC Desire as it looks good and it’s very powerful. Chou said that they’re working with all major carriers around the world so we can expect the Desire to be subsidized by T-Mobile, Verizon, AT&T, and Sprint, but you cannot bet on that. More details should be released in the following weeks. I’m really excited and I think you are too! Check out the gallery below where you can see the Legend, Desire, and the HD Mini.

Bit of a cop out really wasn't it? We already know it's coming… tell us when! I suppose the thing is, if the phones are going to be released in April, the software has to be finished before it is released right? Let's hope they don't make us wait until the Legend and Desire are already out…

Olympic luge tragedy video

Luge who died video available and violent. The luge death video has been popular since Friday, when the violent death of Nodar Kumaritashvili, a 21 year old Georgian luger, was captured on tape. Kumaritashvili was training for the men’s luge event at the 2010 Winter Olympics when he lost control of his sled, flew threw the air, and hit an unpadded pole.
Since then, controversy over what caused his death has ensued. Olympic officials have declared the death due to “human error”, although they made changes to the track to slow things down a bit.
Many think that if the death was 100% human error as stated, the officials wouldn’t have shortened the starting point and made changes to the turn where the luger lost control.
Nodar is only the third Olympian to die during training. The first two died during the 1964 games, which is ironically when the event of luging had its inaugural year.
Other lugers have shown sympathy, where as some are upset about the changes made to the track. A woman luger from Germany said that the track was now a “child’s Race.” Canadians complained that the changes took away their “home field advantage.”
The Whistler track is very advanced. Prior to the changes made after the luge who died video event took place, speeds of 96 mph were clocked on the track. This is way in excess of what it should be.

In the wake of yesterday’s terrible tragedy outside of Vancouver at the Whistler Sliding Center, where Georgian luger Nodar Kumaritashvili sadly lost his life, safety is on the minds of many. Only hours before the opening ceremonies of the 2010 Winter Olympic Games, the 21-year old lost control of his sled at 88mph and was catapulted over the track wall into a steel support column. All throughout the week, coaches, commentators, and even other Olympians have questioned the safety of the track, as nearly a dozen other athletes have also crashed during practice runs, including a Romanian women’s slider who was knocked unconscious and defending Olympic luge champion Armin Zoeggeler of Italy. The President of the World Luge Federation said the track is too fast and thinks it is a planning mistake, while Australian luger Hannah Campbell-Pegg questioned whether athletes were being treated as “ crash test dummies “. The shocking footage of the accident was replayed all throughout the day and evening yesterday, leaving horrified viewers focused on discussion about the safety of the track. But in all of this shock, horror and sadness over the tragic death of an athlete in his prime and the dangers of the track on which he lost his young life, what has the SEIU focused on? Food safety. (Translated = unionizing) Reports of the horrible accident in Vancouver began surfacing in the press as early as 12:30 pm EST Friday . Yet, the SEIU still felt their unionization Food Safety concerns were so paramount that they went ahead and issued a press release anyway, after 5:00 pm EST : “ PRESS RELEASE: Healthcare Union Raises Concerns Over Safety Of Food to be Served to Olympic Athletes at Vancouver Olympics “ “Sodexo is providing catering services for athletes during this key moment in their sporting careers, and we’re concerned about the food they will be providing,” charged the SEIU in Friday’s press release. It’s not as though the SEIU could not have known about the tragedy – the story had been broadcast all over the news for at least five hours before SEIU pushed out its attack. If they didn’t know, then they’re even more disconnected from reality than we thought they were. As many are already aware, the SEIU has been incessantly battering Sodexo since 2007, in its desire to unionize some of its nearly 400,000 employees, many of them hotel and food service workers. Sodexo is one of the largest food services and facilities management companies in the world, and is the provider of choice for most schools, universities, companies, hotels, prisons and other facilities that outsource their cafeteria and food catering operations, and for those that outsource industrial cleaning services. The other target though, since 2003, has actually been another union, UNITE HERE, the former combination of the Union of Needle trades, Industrial and Textile Employees and the Hotel Employees and Restaurant Employees International union. There has been a longstanding war amongst the three, where SEIU once partnered with UNITE to attack HERE, then eventually betrayed UNITE as well. The prize of course being hotel and casino workers, cleaners, garment workers, and potentially even bank tellers. The epic battle is not exactly secret, nor is it new, although there have been significant recent escalations in their ongoing war. It’s all like a soap opera, but that’s an article for another day. Lately, with so much more now at stake, like every possible piece of the health care legislation to which the labor union can superficially associate itself, including food & wellness (yeah, remember the SEIU Lunchladies video I posted , where SEIU insists that kids are obese and unhealthy because non-union workers from outsourced companies like Sodexo are serving their food?), SEIU bosses have significantly amped up the Sodexo attacks in recent months. Perhaps you’ve recognized their usual tactics in action: the corporate smear campaign website , non-stop blog attacks on the company and on those who support them , frequent press releases , artificial “ reports ” and “statistics”, robocalls and mailers, and using partners like ACORN to plant dissatisfied workers in the media. Oh, and don’t forget – their fellow unions are fighting back against Andy Stern and the SEIU corporate bosses. Even rank and file union workers want the nonsense to stop. Which all brings me back to yesterday’s press release. C’mon, SEIU. First, do you honestly think the American people are so ignorant that they don’t see through your fake intentions? Maybe the mainstream media is, as they blindly report on your press releases like robots. But not the rest of us. Food Safety? Really, SEIU? Really? More importantly, where is your soul? You claim to care about all of these rank and file workers you support, but then you betray them. Bad move. Then, on a tragic day when all eyes are focused on the death of a young athlete in Vancouver and on the safety of the track on which he died, you send out a press release hours after the accident about…not construction safety, not facility safety, not even worker or athlete safety…but about Food Safety. Really bad move. In the end, it’s not even about Food Safety at all. It’s a shameless part of a typical corporate campaign against a company whose workers you are trying to unionize. And some of those Sodexo workers have been providing food and hospitality to these Olympic athletes all week. Give them a day to process what just happened before you start attacking. Shame on you, SEIU bosses. Shame on you.
